An Ever Grateful Heart
Recently, it marked two years since my partner’s death. After caregiving for 21 months, with the inevitable wear and tear involved, I realized only an injury to myself could easily upend the fate of my dear friend.
Fortunately when the injury occurred, we had the help of VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region in place.
With one call to this extraordinary group, they sent a volunteer to take me to urgent care and for our hospice nurse to arrive at our home to take charge of Bo. It was a great relief.
Immediately, VNAHSR searched for an accommodation for Bo, as my caregiving days had ended. They found a facility in Manchester, and he was taken there the next day. Besides the loving staff at Equinox Terrace, our friends at VNAHSR were in and out of Bo’s room over the next 36 hours.
My friend had begun to shut down even before I became injured. He passed during the second evening of his short stay.
It would be difficult to express how blessed we both felt to have the dedicated individuals that comprise this outstanding organization. After my loss, they called several times to inquire after my wellbeing.
‘Thankful’ seems such a lame word compared to how I will always feel towards this band of angels.
